AH CRAB! MOM'S COMING!

  Two games in one, at the same time. "Ah Crab! Mom's Coming!" tasks you with playing a 2D game in your trusty Crabtendo Snips™ late at night while avoiding being caught by your mom.

  Made in just ten days for the GameDev.tv Game Jam  2023, themed Life in Two Dimensions, "Ah Crab! Mom's Coming!" is both a 3D and a 2D game set in the middle of the night, featuring a disobedient child with the uncontrollable urge to play the latest game in the Make it Snappy! series.

SIMULTANEOUS GAMEPLAY

  "Ah Crab! Mom's Coming!" consists on two games that run simultaneously. In the 3D game, you have to hide your Crabtendo Snips™ Handheld Entertainment System whenever your mom comes to check in on you to make sure you're not up late. Pay attention to the sounds and act fast to avoid getting caught!

   At any point, you can hold the Middle Mouse Button to peek over the handheld console, or press Tab to put it down. Putting the console down will pause the 2D game, but peeking won't! Keep an eye at your door - if at any time you see light coming through the gap under it, hide your console immediately!

 
  In the 2D game, "Make it Snappy!", you are a crab trying to escape a kitchen before you are turned into dinner! To accomplish this goal, you must collect 20 crabs scattered around the map so you can destroy the locked door, by combining your strenghts and performing The Ultimate Pinch. Be careful, however, since taking damage will destroy your entire chain of crabs!

   You can use the A and D keys to steer the crab inside the game, and once you manage to collect all 20 crabs, you'll turn into one huge crab! Avoid damage at all costs, find the exit door and hurry to escape! 

   Things like falling cleavers, burning hot pots and pans and sliding butter can hurt you pretty badly. If you have 0 crabs on your chain and take damage, you'll lose one health point. Lose three of them, and you're out! Don't worry, though: you can always restart the 2D game, but if mom catches you, you're grounded for a week!

CONTROLS

Tab - pull up / put down handheld console

Middle Mouse Button - peek over handheld console

Mouse - controls camera look when console is down

A and D - steer the crab in the 2D game

Alt + F4 - close the game

"Ah Crab! Mom's Coming!" was built from the ground up in 10 days, and no third-party assets were used.
